Meet the Team!

Erica McCarthy
President
Erica McCarthy’s passion for innovative simulator development stems from a multifaceted background in medical illustration, biomedical modeling, overseas and domestic manufacturing, and custom product sales. Listening to the needs of the healthcare industry for more than twenty years has provided her with unique insight into areas that are critically in need of simulation training.
Erica’s dedication to fulfilling these needs has fueled Bloom’s pursuit of realistic and affordable simulator materials, hybrid manufacturing methods, and collaborative solutions.

Having grown up on a farm, Erica has a love for native plants and gardening. “There is an incredible amount of foresight and planning involved in gardening. It’s hard work, the payoff is years away, and you might fail—but the result is something truly rewarding. I find awe and inspiration in observing an ecosystem and seeing it thrive.” Erica also enjoys foraging, flower arranging, trying weird foods, and going on adventures with her husband and two young sons.

Bruce Anderson, PhD
Director, Clinical Validation
Bruce holds a BA in Physics from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, specializing in Biomechanics and Physiology, from the University of California, Berkeley. For over 20 years, he has been involved in the development and validation of a wide range of medical simulators, including both bench-top physical models and high-fidelity Virtual Reality (VR) simulators.

These simulators have been employed across several medical specialties, including anesthesia, orthopedic surgery, and gynecology. He has served as the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on a dozen NIH and Department of Defense research programs, ten of which have focused on medical simulation. Dr. Anderson will continue to lead the validation studies of MammoVest, demonstrating its value in breast positioning training. Outside of medical simulation, he currently serves on the board of two medical start-up companies developing implants and technologies for orthopedic surgery.
“25 years of experience in the field of mammography...
have shown me that there is nothing more valuable than hands-on training in terms of improving positioning skills. MammoVest is truly unique in its life-like qualities and unlike any other tools available
for mammography education.”
– MIRANDA MELTON, RT, (R), (M)

Miranda Melton is Director of Women’s Imaging Education at Medical Technology Management Institute (MTMI)
“I needed a company that could think outside the box...
and not be afraid to create and push the boundaries of realism with a vaginal surgery training model.
Your staff has far surpassed my expectations with the development and production of the Miya-Model –
the first realistic multi-procedural vaginal surgery simulation model. The modular design and replaceable “surgical site” parts, realistic tissue feel and palpable anatomic landmarks are a few examples of the
design and production abilities of the Bloom Medical Simulation.”
– DR. MIYAZAKI

Dr. Miyazaki is Board Certified and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Miyazaki’s professional interests include both low and high risk obstetrics as well as several different fields of gynecology. Advanced laparoscopy, urinary incontinence evaluation and treatment and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery are a few areas which he has completed special training.
